Frequently Asked Questions
About Four Paws
What is Four Paws?
Four Paws is a non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming stray dogs. We work to create a world where every dog has a loving home and proper care.
How was Four Paws started?
Four Paws was founded in 2015 by a group of animal lovers who were concerned about the growing number of stray dogs in the city. What started as a small rescue operation has grown into a full-fledged organization with multiple programs and initiatives.
How is Four Paws funded?
Four Paws relies on donations from individuals, businesses, and grants. We also generate some revenue through our merchandise and fundraising events. Every contribution helps us continue our mission of helping stray dogs.
Adoption Process
How do I adopt a dog from Four Paws?
The adoption process begins with browsing our available dogs online or visiting our shelter. Once you find a dog you're interested in, you'll need to fill out an adoption application, have a home visit, and pay an adoption fee. The entire process usually takes 1-2 weeks.
What are the requirements for adoption?
Potential adopters must be at least 21 years old, have a stable living situation, and be able to provide proper care for the dog. We also require landlord approval for renters and consider the compatibility between the dog and your lifestyle, existing pets, and family members.
What is included in the adoption fee?
The adoption fee covers spaying/neutering, vaccinations, microchipping, deworming, and a basic health check. The fee helps us recover some of the costs associated with rescuing and caring for the dogs before they find their forever homes.
Can I return a dog if it doesn't work out?
Yes, we have a return policy. We understand that sometimes, despite the best intentions, an adoption may not work out. We ask that you contact us before making any decisions so we can try to help resolve any issues. If returning is the only option, we will take the dog back.
Ways to Help
How can I volunteer with Four Paws?
We offer various volunteer opportunities including dog walking, socialization, cleaning, fundraising, event planning, and administrative tasks. You can fill out a volunteer application on our website, and after a brief orientation, you can start making a difference!
Can I foster a dog instead of adopting?
Absolutely! Fostering is a wonderful way to help dogs without the long-term commitment of adoption. Fosters provide temporary homes for dogs until they find their forever families. We provide all necessary supplies and cover medical expenses for foster dogs.
What donations does Four Paws need?
We always welcome monetary donations, which help us cover medical costs, food, shelter operations, and other expenses. We also accept donations of dog food, toys, bedding, cleaning supplies, and office supplies. Check our website for our current needs list.
How can businesses support Four Paws?
Businesses can support Four Paws through corporate donations, sponsorship of events, employee volunteer programs, or in-kind donations of goods or services. We also offer partnership opportunities for businesses that want to align with our mission.
